During 2007 Broad Street played host to a number of high profile events.

March saw the European Indoor Athletics Championships at the National Indoor Arena, where over 50 countries competed with 600 athletes, whilst 1200 journalists, 15,000 spectators and 160 million people worldwide watched.

The National Veterans Day celebrations took place in June and were sponsored by the BID. Thousands of war veterans came to stay in the area for the five days of celebration, including the Veterans Grand Marquee on Broad Street and a spectacular parade by regimental pipe and drum bands from around the UK.

The area was host to the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Scout Movement and a record breaking line dancing event in aid of Comic Relief.

Broad Street’s Cineworld complex staged a number of high profile film premieres thoughout 2007, with the highlight being the premiere fo the British smash hit Hot Fuzz.

The Broad Street Canal Boat Light Parade was once again a tremendous success, with over 20,000 people lining the canal towpaths throughout the area to see over 20 spectacularly illuminated canal boats pass gracefully by.

We look forward to another year of successful events in 2008. We’ve already seen the Best of Broad Street Awards, the opening of the Style Birmingham event held in Centenary Square, the regional premiere of the Sex and the City movie, and the opening of two fantastic new venues - O Bar and Piccolino’s. Come back and check our events diary for details of whats happening.
