Dudley comedian, writer and actor Lenny Henry will be on Broad Street, Birmingham next month to be honoured on the city’s Walk of Stars.

Lenny will receive his star from Birmingham Lord Mayor, Councillor Michael Wilkes whilst in the city headlining ‘Rock With Laughter ‘09’ at the LG Arena. Following the presentation Lenny will hold a question and answer session hosted by BRMB.

The coveted award will be later embedded in Broad Street’s Walk of Stars alongside those received by other renowned celebrities. Recent stars have been presented to Julie Walters, Frank Skinner and Midland football heroes, including Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown and Ray Graydon.

Speaking earlier today about the honour, Lenny said: “I am extremely honoured and humbled to accept my place on the Walk of Stars - my mom said ‘If you’re not careful in show business, they’ll walk all over you’ and she was absolutely right. But in a good way. Thank you Birmingham. I salute you….”

One of the country’s best loved comedians, Lenny was born in Dudley in 1958. His career started in 1975 after appearing on the talent show ‘New Faces’, which he repeatedly won. His career has spanned over three decades and most recently has seen him tour the country in the title role of Othello for which he has received widespread critical acclaim and this week saw Lenny named the outstanding newcomer at the London Evening Standard theatre awards.

Lenny’s presentation will take place on Saturday 19th December on Broad Street.
