Whilst the sun shone down on Brindleyplace this lunchtime passersby were witness to Birmingham’s very own St George slay the Broad Street Dragon as part of the street’s celebrations for St George’s Day.

‘St George’ (Councillor Peter Douglas-Osbourne) caused a stir astride his trustee 17 hands white stallion, proceeding to ‘slay’ the Dragon (Broad Street Warden, Paul Barnett) and the pose for photos with children and members of the public.

The quirky celebration is part of a weekend full of events in the city, which tomorrow includes the eighth annual St Georges Day Celebration concert at Symphony Hall.

Mike Olley, Broad Street Manager said “Broad Street is delighted to be joining in the city of Birmingham’s St Georges Day celebrations this year. Our St George fought gallantly against our dragon, who was quite the match for him!”
